Thermal insulation with Isoglamat

Operators of thermal process plants, specifically natural gas-fired drying plants, increasingly seek practicable energy savings solutions. Which is where we come in, supplying additional thermal insulation in the form of Isoglamat, a self-adhesive insulating glass fiber mat in 25mm thickness, designed for affixing to metallic surfaces with surface temperatures of up to 100 °C.

In several successful projects, operators of powder drying plants have taken it upon themselves to retrofit their gas-fired ovens with these mats.

As a result, this insulating method enabled the average temperature on the surface of the existent oven insulation to be reduced by around 15 °C. Given an oven surface of 555sq.m and an annual heating period of 3,500 hours, the potential energy savings amount to 311,220kWh of natural gas.

Cutting and affixing the Isoglamat mats (1,000 x 1,000mm) to the 555sq.m oven surface required 10 man-days. One plant operator added a double layer of Isoglamat to the existing insulation in both floor and ceiling areas (sheet-metal paneling) to give a total thickness of 50mm. Before affixing the Isoglamat mats, the surface of the drying oven was thoroughly cleaned to ensure the self-adhesive, thermal insulating mats would achieve a permanent bond.

A further positive side-effect is the considerable reduction in ambient temperature of the drying plant after completing the insulation work. The working environment of staff has significantly improved. Plant technology such as pumps, motors, measurement and control equipment is no longer exposed to hot ambient air, thus increasing the life of these units.
